My teaching car is a Mercedes Benz A180 CDi Sport. It has a 1.5 litre Diesel engine, which makes it particularly easy to drive, and to learn clutch control. It also feels very solid, which helps to inspire confidence for my students.

It is of course, equipped with He-Man dual controls, which means that if necessary I can intervene and stop the car, I don’t use them much, but its good for the student to know they are there!

Safety features built into the car include numerous airbags and the latest seatbelt technology.

The car also has good all round visibility, and a reversing camera, making manoeuvres easier. It has comfortable leather seats and air conditioning, for those longer lessons and hot days.

The gearbox has 6 forward gears, giving good economy, and cruise control is also fitted, so motorway lessons become a ‘breeze’, and its always useful to use these modern functions with guidance for the first time.

There are also automatic lights and windscreen wipers, although both can easily be switched into manual control, it maybe that on test you are asked to operate them by the examiner, I always ensure that my students are confident with the use of all the cars controls.
